15A NCAC 11 .1325. SUBJECTS IN TRAINING COURSES FOR LOGGING SUPERVISORS

  • Training courses for logging supervisors shall address at least the following subjects:

    (1)           fundamentals of radiation safety:

    (a)           characteristics of radiation;

    (b)           units of radiation dose and quantity of radioactivity;

    (c)           significance of radiation dose:

    (i)            radiation protection standards,

    (ii)           biological effects of radiation dose,

    (d)           levels of radiation from sources of radiation;

    (e)           methods of minimizing radiation dose:

    (i)            working time,

    (ii)           working distance,

    (iii)          shielding,

    (2)           radiation detection instrumentation to be used:

    (a)           use of radiation survey instruments;

    (b)           operation;

    (c)           calibration;

    (d)           limitations;

    (e)           survey techniques;

    (f)            use of personnel monitoring equipment;

    (3)           equipment to be used:

    (a)           handling equipment;

    (b)           sources of radiation;

    (c)           storage and control of equipment;

    (d)           operation and control of equipment;

    (4)           the requirements of pertinent federal and state regulations;

    (5)           the licensee's written operating and emergency procedures;

    (6)           the licensee's record keeping procedures.
